Our Labor and Delivery rooms are designed to make your birth experience comfortable and easy. Our Level III, 14-bed unit includes eight LDR (labor, delivery and recovery) rooms and can accommodate mothers with high-risk pregnancies and other special needs. Most of the rooms are private and each has an advanced monitoring system.
Anesthesiologists and neonatologists are in the unit around the clock. We have two operating rooms for cesarean section births and a four-bed post anesthesia recovery unit (PACU) for a smooth transition.

Couplet Care
After the birth of your baby, you will be moved to our 38-bed post-partum unit in one of our private rooms. There, both you and your baby will be assigned one special nurse. This is called Couplet Care.
Couplet Care is a family-centered approach to mother-baby care. Babies will stay with their mom in the room and one nurse will care for both. All services such as labs and bathing, and with the exception of procedures, will be done in your patient room. Couplet Care has been shown to improve bonding and breastfeeding, increase patient satisfaction and foster better patient/physician relationships.
Should your child need to go to the nursery, our experienced staff will help care for baby as well as provide education so you feel comfortable with baby care, such as bathing, umbilical cord care and installing your car seat.
One of your baby’s first photos can also be taken at the hospital. Prints of this keepsake are available at an additional charge. Your family may also view the photo on our website at our Virtual Nursery.

Lactation Nurse
Breastfeeding is a personal decision and one that is encouraged. We recommend that expectant mothers discuss breastfeeding with a physician, nurse or certified lactation consultant before your baby arrives. At FVRH, we have a full-time lactation nurse who can assist you with breastfeeding techniques and answer any questions you may have before and after delivery. Your assessment and individualized guidance will be given in a relaxed atmosphere. It’s important you receive the support you need so that you are successful, and more importantly, feel comfortable with your choice.
