AHA/American Stroke Association Honors Fountain Valley Regional Hospital for Stroke Achievement with Prestigious Stroke Gold Plus Quality Award
Aug 9, 2023Fountain Valley, Calif. – Fountain Valley Regional Hospital has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get with the Guidelines / Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award for 2023.
Fountain Valley has also been awarded the Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll recognitions for 2023 in addition to recently being awarded the prestigious certification as a Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center by The Joint Commission.
“This award is significant and a recognition of the dedication that our stroke care teams have for our patients every day,” said Randy Rogers, Fountain Valley Regional Hospital’s CEO. “These honors show our communities the commitment to quality and life-saving care provided by our entire team at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital."
The Gold Plus award recognizes that Fountain Valley has achieved the Plus Quality standard for two or more consecutive calendar years of 85% or higher adherence on all achievement measures applicable and 75 percent or higher adherence with additional select quality measures in stroke.
These measures include evaluation of the proper use of medications and other stroke treatments aligned with the most up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines with the goal of speeding recovery and reducing death and disability for stroke patients. The award also recognizes that, before discharge, Fountain Valley’s patients receive education on managing their health, as well as other care transition interventions.
The Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus recognition is given to hospitals that demonstrate door-to-needle administration of intravenous tPA within 60 minutes in 75% or more of eligible patients and within 45 minutes in 50% of eligible patients. The “needle” in that phrase refers to the clot-dissolving medicine tPA (tissue Plasminogen Activator), which is the only treatment for acute ischemic stroke to receive Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval. The Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll award recognizes hospitals’ diligence to ensure patients with type 2 diabetes receive the most up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized for heart disease or stroke.
