Fountain Valley Regional Hospital Celebrates Grand Opening of New Interventional Radiology (IR) Suite and ServicesDec 21, 2023
Fountain Valley Regional Hospital is proud to announce the grand opening of its new Interventional Radiology Suite.
Interventional Radiology, or (IR) is an exciting and growing medical specialty that enables doctors to perform surgical procedures to diagnose, treat and cure a variety of conditions in a less invasive way. Most IR treatments are alternatives to procedures that once required open surgery. No large incisions or general anesthesia is needed with most IR procedures.
“This new technology gives us the tools to treat our patients without large incisions and long hospital stays, which translates to faster healing and better recovery outcomes,” stated Reginald Abraham, M.D., Chief of Staff for Fountain Valley Regional Hospital.
The process involves the use of medical imaging such as Digital Radiology (X-RAY), Ultrasound, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computed Tomography (CT) to guide needles, fine catheter tubes, and/or wires inside the body. The range of conditions that can be treated is vast and widely expanding.
Fountain Valley Regional Hospital’s new system features new X-RAY tube and detector technology designed to improve minimally invasive therapy of diseases such as coronary artery disease, stroke, and cancer. The new X-RAY tube can help physicians identify small vessels up to 70 percent better than conventional X-RAY tube technology. This translates to improved visibility of small vessels and a high level of detailed imaging information.
“Our goal is always to offer our patients the best care possible so that they can return to their daily lives and loved ones as safely and quickly as possible. This new IR suite helps our physicians to achieve this goal,” said Randy Rogers, Fountain Valley Regional Hospital’s CEO.
