Fountain Valley Regional Hospital Receives Advanced Certification as Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center from The Joint Commission

May 16, 2023

Fountain Valley, CA – Fountain Valley Regional Hospital has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center Certification. This program is designed for hospitals performing endovascular thrombectomy procedures and post-procedural care. Certification and accreditation are earned by demonstrating continuous compliance with The Joint Commission’s performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.

Fountain Valley Regional Hospital underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review and during the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with their thrombectomy stroke program standards spanning several areas.  The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess, and improve performance. The surveyors also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

“As a heath care accreditor, The Joint Commission works with health care organizations across settings to help improve patient safety and quality of care through our expert resources and tools, innovative solutions and rigorous standards,” says Deborah Ryan, MS, RN, interim executive vice president, Accreditation and Certification Operations, The Joint Commission. “We commend Fountain Valley Regional Hospital for its commitment to advance safety and quality for all patients.”

“I am immensely proud of our dedicated team of highly trained specialists who have put so much effort toward this award,” said hospital CEO, Randy Rogers. “We are honored to provide advanced neurological & stroke care to the Fountain Valley community and remain steadfast in our unwavering commitment to improve the lives of our patients. Providing the best possible outcomes for our stroke patients through timely treatment, fostering prompt reintegration to the community is what we strive for.”

The first few minutes of a stroke are the most important, and when you or a loved one is having a stroke, you must act quickly. Doing so, could mean the difference between life and death. Research has shown that two million brain cells are lost within the first minute after a stroke begins. The faster a person who is having a stroke receives treatment, the better the chances of a complete recovery and life without disability.
