Tests & Screenings

Tests and screenings of shoulder conditions

An accurate diagnosis is the first step to getting better. At Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center, you can take advantage of a variety of tests and screenings available at our hospital or our fully equipped imaging centers. Below you’ll find information on common diagnostic tests and screenings we use to diagnose shoulder conditions.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

A physician performs magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to evaluate any soft-tissue injury or abnormalities in the shoulder. MRI provides greater sensitivity and specificity than conventional imaging techniques.

An X-ray machine emits electromagnetic waves (radiation) that go through the body so that a physician can see images of the internal makeup of the patient’s shoulder.
