Catheterization labs in Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center’s heart care program are equipped with some of the latest digital imaging technology to assist our surgeons with diagnosing, evaluating and monitoring problems with the heart. During a cardiac catheterization procedure, the surgeon guides a catheter, a small tube-like device, through a patient’s large body arteries until the catheter reaches the coronary arteries. Once the catheter is in place, the surgeon can take images to assess the structure and function of the heart. Surgeons can also use the catheter to complete certain heart treatments and therapies, such as:
Cardiac catheterization
Coronary stent placement
Coronary angioplasties and revascularization
Intracoronary echo ultrasound (ICE) and digital cardiovascular imaging
